Many forum posts about issues, where the AD3212KB-K71 fans on actively cooled Intel X540 cards are loud and/or unreliable. For my X540 cards, I designed this adapter to swap out the loud little fans with quieter 50mm fans. The bracket is screwed down using the original fan's screws. The cheap 2-pack of 50mm fans I received came with M3 screws, so that's the hole/thread size on the STL.
