Ionic dice - laser cut

Ionic dice - laser cut

thingiverse

These are a set of dice that can be used by students to create formulas and give the name to ionic compounds. The student selects one of each the cation and anion dice and rolls them. Then he or she writes the formula and the name for the compound that was drawn. We used 3 mm MDF boards. Each of the colors in the vector files is used for a different setting in the laser cutting machine. The black outline should be set to cutting, in a speed and power enough to cut the board completely. The blue areas are set to engrave (scan). The red border on the cation dice was set to cut in a low power and high speed setting, to make just a mark in the wood. Make some tests to see what works best for your machine. We used white glue to get the faces of the dice together. Check out the 3D printed version of the dice here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5891301
