Wanted a pencil for my iPad ever since I bought SketchBook Pro (finger drawing isn't for me), but the Apple store in my town didn't have any in stock, and the ones that they sell are small and skinny. Was really more interested in the beefier kind, but then I had to buy from Amazon or eBay. But! I have a ToM, and therefore the possibility to make anything, so why not make my own capacitive pen? Printed one out that didn't work, because I didn't do my homework and check up how these pens really are constructed. Then designed a new version that allows the conductive foam to make (electrical) contact with the hand, and voila; my own, perfect drawing pen!! The only downside is that I no longer can blame the imprecise finger input for my bad drawings. Instructions I printed this with 2 extra shells for stability, 15% infill. One of the channels inside the cone part of the pencil had to be widened with a hot paperclip for the wire to be able to go thru. For wire, I used regular solder, 0,8mm. After threading all sides, twist the wires so that they are stretched and don't come loose. Press fit conductive foam (comes with MCUs and ICs) into the recession and make sure that the foam and the wire make contact (glue if needed. I needed not). Trim the foam to wanted shape. Enjoy you new pen.
