The basic design offers a biomimicry solution to alleviate the problem of phones slipping out of pocket by having special features on the cover that would require more application of force to remove phone. Similar to shark skin where overlapping sharp uni-directional denticles have helped reduce drag force in a specific direction. The new case work in similar fashion to increase drag in a specific direction. Sharp and downward pointing structure entangles fabrics in pocket lining, thereby increasing drag force and prevent phones from dropping out. Owing to the downward-pointing of the structure, slipping your phones into your pocket is fast and easy. The luxury design offers a sliding case cover that can be easily slotted to cover the entire phone. In addition, during dry weather, the top face of the back cover of the phone case has been designed to allow air to enter the case and circulate around at the back of the phone, preventing overheating. For wet weather, the top of the front case is uniquely shaped to ensure water does not enter the phone cases. As opposed to most water-proofing solutions which are clumsy and prevent usage of phones. The water-proofing cases relies on understanding water flows dynamics and to direct them around the phones instead of into-the phones. Also, the case has a transparent plastic front face to enable the touchscreen function even when the phone is covered. There is a slide-in mechanism to attach the phone case onto the mounting part to provide convenience and ease of use. After further market research, we found that there is a lack of a product which incorporates all of these features, and hence, we believe this phone case to be novel in the market. Overview and Background The main scope of this project will focus on designing IPhone 6 phone covers for motorcyclists. Lesson Plan and Activity A basic case design with uni-directional surface roughness entangles inner lining of pockets and prevent phones from slipping out of pockets. In addition, wet weather and overheating of phones are two major problems faced by motorcyclists. To prevent overheating, the luxury phone case is designed to allow better flow of air in contact with the back of the phone. Also, a unique case with slide-in transparent cover is orientated to ensure water flow away from the phones. This help phones to stay dry and functional during wet weather.
