iPod Camera Holder

iPod Camera Holder

This is an iPod holder for taking hands free pictures. I attached it on a 7mm diameter rod salvaged from an old printer. The holder has an adjustable swivel using a 10-24 x 1-1/4" machine screw and wing nut. The clamp fits an iPod touch, and will fit on a 6th generation and 5th generation. It should also fit on a 4th gen but I haven't tested it. It will be to thin to fit an iPhone. I attached the rod to a clamp to support the camera assembly to a table. I have included the 123D design file that includes the 6th Gen iPod if you wish to add to this or make changes. Print Settings Printer Brand: Printrbot Printer: Simple Black Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .3mm Infill: 20% Notes: The iPod bracket was printed with the side edge down. The swivels were printed with the large flat side down (pivot hole up/down). Post-Printing The dove tail joint is very tight so I didn't need glue. I needed to file the top of both sides a bit for it to slide in. I put the swivel flush to the edge of the bracket so the wing nut would not hit the bracket (see pictures). I had to drill the swivel hole to size, and used a small round file to touch up the hole for the rod. The rod is slid in the bottom and a small zip tie hold the rod to the swivel tight. Slide the bracket on and off the iPod from the bottom so it will not hit the camera lens or any of the side buttons. How I Designed This I used a Caliper Micrometer to measure the iPod then created the model. The iPod model was used to remove the profile from the bracket. The bracket was scaled a bit larger so the iPod would slide through but firmly hold the iPod. I had to make a few 10 layer tests adjusting the scaling to get the fit right. I made this in 3 pieces to give it the best strength and so each piece can be made without supports.
