Jedi Holocron - Dual Extrusion

Jedi Holocron - Dual Extrusion

I designed this assembly in Fusion because other Holocrons were not terribly dual-extrusion friendly and were only available for non-commercial use. This Holocron is intended for dual extrusion printing -- print both the clear and metallic parts together in one print, eliminating the need to glue them together. This design would be less friendly for print-and-glue assembly because the outer metallic faces are not fully connected, making it difficult to center the disconnected parts before gluing them to the clear portion. NOTE!!! First, I apologize for the fact that the parts will likely load into your slicer standing upright. This is a glitch in Fusion where the x, y, and z planes differ from those in Cura. Simply rotate them 90 degrees so they're flat. MORE IMPORTANTLY, when placing the objects on your bed, place the translucent part flat on the build plate, then position the metallic (outer) part centered (x&y) directly above the translucent piece. THEN YOU MUST ADJUST THE Z HEIGHT OF THE METALLIC PART TO A DISTANCE OF 0.7938mm ABOVE THE BED! If you do not position the pieces this way, you will either have mesh collision or a gap between the pieces. I used a very small tree support around the edge of the dual-extruded pieces, where the edge angles upward -- this may be unnecessary, but it added like an extra minute of print time and couldn't hurt. I have also included a jig which can be printed and then used to hold the sides in place when gluing them together. All 5 sides and the base can fit on a 300x300mm bed with room, if necessary, for a prime tower on non-IDEX machines. The base was designed for LED tealights with a diameter of 3.6 cm (36mm). They look best with a clear, flickering tealight -- the yellowish ones make the translucent panels look weird. This design has been tested and printed in PLA. (I have no reason to think it wouldn't also work in other materials!) It is free for community (non-commercial and commercial with attribution) use. ENJOY!
