[EDIT: Due to the shape of these, they can be a bit tricky to take off the build plate after printing. I print this on a glass plate and the way I take them off is with a scraper at about 30 degrees right into the shallow edge. When aligned, I then give the end of the scraper handle a nice whack with the butt of my palm -- they pop right off.] [EDIT: Noticed someone put this thing in a collection called: for kids. i wouldn't say they are kid safe at all. The thin edges are about as sharp as a butter knife. Could be potentially dangerous in kids hands. For example, if a small based tree was laying sideways on the floor and someone stepped on it, it'd probabally hurt pretty bad. They aren't flexible but VERY rigid -- they don't give. I say they could cause serious cutting damage in that situation. Definitely not kid safe.] No more sanding MDF or carving and sanding rigid foam insulation -- what a mess, time consuming, hazardous to health. Also the hand made bases usually don't sit that flush, warp, teeter, aren't waterproof and not that durable (and possibly heavy in the case of MDF). Enter 3D printer tree bases! Simply measure your tree (or is what to be a set of trees) and determine the X and Y axis measurements (I use digital calipers $25). Choose one of the nine models and scale it appropriately in the slicing program based on the measurements you just took. Hot glue the tree to the base, smooth out the hot glue with appropriate glue gun (the one DM Scotty prefers with the long metal tip). [Be careful not to get the metal tip too close to the very edge of the base as it can warp it -- if you do get close, make sure the base is sitting on a perfectly flat surface when doing so.] Then just base it with appropriate soil color. Then paint, flock or whatever and you are done. Very fast, clean, affordable, time saving, safe & durable! You can resize any dimension(s) to make new shapes from the nine as well to suit your needs for your tree, or cluster of trees.
