Inspired by the 1922 "Chessmen of mars" by Edgar Rice Burroughs, and the artwork of Frank Frazetta. Created models that represent the 8 playing pieces described in the book. 21 printed modular components, 194 in total for the complete set. Substituting "rings" for feathers, each assembly requires a 1/4-20 flat head cap screw, available at most hardware stores, to fasten the stacks and give weight. Optional lead weight casting model included for worlds with lower gravity. Barsoom awaits you. Instructions From my original pencil sketches made in 1878 (after my first trip to Mars), modelled in Solidworks 2014, and printed on a Makerbot Replicator2. Never give up on your designs, refine. Pieces shown are made from Makerbot true yellow and MG Chemicals Metallic Silver (Pewter if you ask me). Printed two sets using Shaxon Orange (WARNING TRANSLUCENT!!!) and Shaxon Black (very shiney). Printed at .2mm the orange has sparkle to it. Threads may need chasing with a tap at .2mm, at .1 work fine. Only the lead weight will need support. No support required for pieces. Prefer the Makerbot yellow, afterall, the Okarians were yellow skinned, right Mr Burroughs?
