Jim's Mug Mug Coffee Cup

Jim's Mug Mug Coffee Cup

Here's a coffee mug of my "mug". So it's a mug mug? I'm not sure why anyone would want a coffee mug of my head (well except me) but if you want it, here it is! I printed it on a FormLabs 1 resin SLA printer with Porcelite resin which is a resin with Porcelain in it that can be fired into Porcelain and then glazed and fired again. There's a hole in my head! (see pic near the hair line) Yeah, actually there's probably more than one hole in my head, but I tried to patch the one for the model so it should be solid now. The Porcelite resin is pretty expensive but this liter was given to me by a friend so I thought it might be nice to make a custom coffee cup with the stuff and this is what I came up with. The Scanect software free version only allows so many polygons but it at least has a nice stylized low poly look. I'll try to update when I get it fired and glazed and maybe a pic of me drinking from my "mug". http://tethon3d.com/product/porcelain-ceramic-resin/ UPDATE: I had the cup fired but it made a lot of smoky fumes and carbonized the insize of the kiln and the cup turned to dust and smallish chunks. I'm not sure what happened. I've sent an email to the company asking what may have happened. Bummer. I'll probably try again by printing one in plastic, then making a plaster mold from it, and then making a cup from ceramic slip and then firing that. That should work instead.
