A 3D printable robust and durable Spool Holder for the He3D K280 “Mega” Delta 3D printer and other RepRap Kossel derivatives. It should work on many other delta printers made from aluminum extrusion, including the He3D K200.

The spool holder is mounted to the V-slot of the frame extrusion, just below the lowest travel point of the effector carriage, using M4x10 hardware.

The part can be easily 3D printed, without any support, on a modern inexpensive 3D Printer. It can be printed with a variety of materials, including PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA and many other types of printable materials.

PLA works very well for this application. It is easy to print. The object should be durable, easy to maintain, and last for a long time as long as the printer will not be used, stored or kept at in a high temperature environment, exceeding ~55 C (~ 130 F).

I designed this spool holder in 2017 and have been using it since without any issues.

I prefer spool holders with some friction and my design reflect this.

I found that a little friction prevent the spool from running away / self-unwinding due the the springing action of some filaments. It also prevents filaments snaps caused by multiple quick retractions in succession.

Please note that I am including gcode and project files for both the Prusa MK2s and the K280 Mega Delta printers.

Recommended print settings with a .4 mm nozzle

- Layer Height: .2 mm

- 6 perimeters or shells (2.7 ~ 3.0 mm)

- 13 bottom layers (2.6 mm)

- 13 top layers (2.6 mm)

- Infill 15%~20%, depending on infill type

Additional items needed for assembly

- 2 x M4-10 Hex Socket Screws

- 2 x M4 T-Nuts

Assembly Instructions

1- Clamp the spool holder to the side of the extrusion using the M4 screws and T-nuts, allowing enough clearance so that the carriage can reach its lowest travel point

2- Tighten the screws enough to secure the spools holder in place.

3- DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!

Thank you for viewing this object!

If you like it, please click on the “like” button.
