<p>This is a simple device used in key impressioning. It is done by filling each side up with Sculpey (modeling clay) and imprint a negative of the key to be copied inbetween. After the key is removed, molten Wood's Metal or Field's metal is poured into the cavity to create a usable key duplicate.</p><p>For more information on the subject, see the following video: <a href="https://youtu.be/2qxm5tbR2YU">https://youtu.be/2qxm5tbR2YU</a>.</p><p>The device is made to be extra printer friendly, by having very little slopes, overhangs and bridges. It can be printed flat on the bed, but caution should be taken to not let the print detach and warp. (Although mine did, it didn't affect the function of the device)</p><p>It's beneficial to use a hard plastic, like PLA, to give the device more rigidity and allow for easier impressioning.</p><h3>Post-Printing</h3><p><strong>Assembly</strong></p><p>In addition to the two 3D printed parts, you'll need one 50mm long M4 bolt with nut for the hinge and two 20-25mm long M4 bolts with nuts (thin) &amp; wingnuts for the optional locking mechanism.</p><h3>How I Designed This</h3><p><strong>Background</strong></p><p>After watching the aforementioned video by The Modern Rogue, in which the Lockpickinglawyer shows a technique for quick and simple key impressioning, I was keen to try it out for my self. Since I couldn't find and 3d model to download, I made my own device inspired by the ones shown during the presentation.</p><p>This is my original design and I also posted the source file (Rhino .3dm &amp; .stp), which will allow you modify the device if needed.</p>
