Key Turner Handle

Key Turner Handle

This is a tool which I needed to make to help my parents access their house and it is likely to be useful to other elderly or people with limited strength/agility in their fingers, hands or forearms. My parents use it by leaving it in a convenient place near the front door. They put the key in the lock as normal and then slide the tool over it so they can turn the key. The handle is cranked so that they do not foul their knuckles etc. The mouth of the slot is sloped for ease of fitting on to the key. The neck and slot area are deliberately left weak so that the tool will break or split rather than the key. Version 1 and 2 were both too weak and needed replacing quite often. So far v3 has not broken any keys and has been quite long lasting in use. I recommend standard settings such as - 3 top and bottom layers. 3 perimeters. 40% fill. Obviously there are risks and they need to be carefully considered before making and using the tool.
