The X'Trapolis 100 is a single-floor electric train model. It is part of the X'Trapolis family of suburban trains from France's Alstom and is in operation in the cities of Melbourne, Australia, and Valparaiso, Chile. The history of these trains dates back to 2000 when Connex Melbourne ordered 58 convoys from Alstom to replace its fleet of Hitachi trains.1 The first 10 units were fully assembled at Alstom's factory in La Rochelle, France. From unit 11 onwards only the bodywork was assembled in France, while the train assembly was carried out at Alstom's complex in Victoria, Australia. [citation needed] The first X'Trapolis 100 entered commercial service on December 27, 2002, while the last unit entered commercial service on December 17, 2004.2
