The original rangefinder base for Rex was basically a non-moving static decoration and I wanted something a bit more functional. I could drill a hole and use a bolt, but there's no easy way to put in stops to keep it put. I decided to try something different. I remodeled the base in Fusion 360, adding a vertical/horizontal stop to the back side, space for a captive M5-.80 x 25 hex bolt, and a plug to hide said bolt. There's also a negative of the stop to use as a template to cut the hole in the helmet, and a greeblie for the rangefinder stalk I added for detail. V2 Update: After giving it some more thought, I went back and changed my approach in the hopes of making things a bit cleaner and more precise. Now instead of using a template to cut the hole, I printed a thin plate in the correct shape. Hog out enough material to clear the hole, leaving enough to hold the plate in place. Adjust it so the shaft will sit perfectly vertical in relation to the helmet and glue it in place. You should get a full 90 degree sweep when you're done. I also hollowed out part of the plug so a captive nut could be used instead of the captive bolt I was originally using. Update: 4/14/19 Added my breather/aerator/microphone/whatever mods so I could use actual screen for the center. Also added a frame to go on the inside of the rangefinder. This was so I could detail out a display screen a little easier. Added the .SVG files for cutting the paint stencils I made: Jaig eyes, side vents, rear circle detail
