This insert perfectly fits into the gaping void that holds player pieces in the Kingdom Builder Big Box 2nd Edition. It essentially transforms that section of the factory insert into a two-level area with an identical set of six compartments for holding player pieces. The fit is extremely tight, primarily due to the corner rounding in the insert. I was able to use the insert as is, but it required a bit of force. When in place, this insert comes just to the top of the inside of the box (note: I have empty sprues on the bottom of my box, so my insert rides a little higher). If you don't have the sprues, I suggest placing both instruction manuals over this side of the box. With this insert supplement in place, you no longer need to worry about player pieces mingling with other pieces if the box should be tipped on its side. Additionally, this gives you an extra six sections to store pieces, so if you add pieces for an additional player, they have a designated space to stay. Each well has rounded bottoms, making it easier to retrieve pieces. The fact that the whole thing is removable means you don't need to try to scoop pieces out of the original pit. Note: This insert was designed specifically for the Kingdom Builder Big Box 2nd Edition. I haven't seen the first edition, so I can't confirm if it will fit that insert as well.
