A while back my moms kitchen utensil drawer had an unfortunate run-in with an angry human (not me!) who slammed the drawer shut.

This cased the original rail holder to snap. My mom didn't want to replace it, and I wanted to experiment with modeling, so I took on a challenge to replace it.

I went through a couple designs and landed on one that beefs the part that failed up a little, but would still be functional.

The first printed object lasted a year before another run-in with the same angry human (again, not me!) broke it in the different spot, and damaged the other side.

The second time printing it (and its neighbor in mirror mode), I added a simple screw plate to absorb some of the impact in case this happens again.

The height between the bottom layer and the sacrificial layer is about 11mm. The width is 25mm.

Behind the part, it sits over a wood bar. This is about 24mm x 9mm.

This is by no means perfect, but its been working in place (including the first breakage) for 2 years now.

Print instructions

Category: Replacement Parts Print Settings

Printer Brand: Prusa

Printer: Mk2.5s

Rafts: No

Supports: No

Resolution: 0.20

Infill: 50%

Filament: MakerGeeks Raptor PLA Yellow
Notes:

Flip the model so the large flat part lies against the bed. This will give it the best structural chance to survive.

No supports are needed as there is a single sacrificial bridge layer that will be cut out.

The main part was printed in the MakerGeeks Raptor PLA (Since they do not exist anymore, I think this is similar to PLA+ materials) and was annealed. The screw absorption plate was printed in PETG.

Due to the annealing process causing some shrinkage, I resized the part by +4% in the slicer. This was probably too much, but it worked.
