Kitchenaid Mixer Bowl Top Cowling

Kitchenaid Mixer Bowl Top Cowling

Kitchenaid makes a clear plastic cowling for its mixing bowls, but their design leaves open space at the top that allows flour and other fine ingredients to get thrown out at times. This piece goes on top of the Kitchenaid cowling and closes off most of that open space. Kitchenaid makes different sized mixing bowls for its different model mixers, so this one is made for the cowling that fits an old K5SS mixer, although their cowling looks like it can fit a mixing bowl between 8" and 8 3/4" OD. I used Polymaker Polylite PC (clear) and printed at a nozzle temp. of 260 deg. C. with a bed temp. of 110 deg. C. I printed on glass with a coating of Magigoo and used a raft to prevent warping (I don't have an enclosure on my printer). Infill was a 20% grid but given the thin design, most of the piece is solid. Retraction distance was 1.5 mm at 45 mm/s and using high travel accelerations (3000 mm/s2) minimized stringing. Printing upside down minimized suppports (Zigzag at 15% density with the overhang angle at 50 deg.) but the supports were tough to get off and some post printing sanding was required.
