NASA RASSOR ChallengeThis design is very close to existing RASSOR drum designs. This design has two scoops at any given point of time. As drum rotates clockwise the regolith will go through passage into the holding area and cannot escape until the drum rotates counterclockwise direction. The distance between wall of passage gets wider so the regolith does not get stuck. Narrowing passage will clog the regolith. Spines will help in grinding and breaking the regolith. Having spine will soften the hard regolith. As the spine size stays same as it gets to the next scoop; so, the drum won’t go off balance. Dividers are used to make sure not to mix regolith between compartments. Round corners are used to make sure regolith does get accumulated in the corners. Lobe on the end of curved wing will help to hold the regolith inside the drum. Material use for production is Graphene. Total weight will be between 1.5 kg to 2.5 kg for all four drums. Fill rate will be around minimum 70% before reaching the holding area for unloading. The design has a different internal geometry as compare to existing RASSOR. More infill rate and stay fill. Less volume is taken by the interior covering; like less infill by material and more by regolith. Different colors are used for the components during assembling the product to distinguish the parts for better explanation.Judging creiteria Calculation:Walls width = 4mmScoop width = 67 mm * 2 = 134 mm (max allowed = 175 mm at any given time)Number of Walls = 5Number of scoops = 16Scoops per section = 4Drum Length = 320 mm (max allowed = 360 mm)Radius = 205 mm+15 mm (spines/scoop)=220 mm = 440 mm diameter (Max allowed = 450 mm)1 section area = 31730.87 mm31 section Volume = 2125968.37 mm3 = 2.1259 liters (each scoop) *20 = 34.0155 liters.Fill Ratio = minimum 70 % (minimum 50% fill ratio)X = 23.81 liters of regolith captured (minimum 17.6 liters)Metal used for built up the product = Graphene metal (strongest and lightest metal)Weight = 0.16 mg / cm^3Product weight = 449.5797 mg (approx.)
