This grotesque representing the witch Kitty Nocks lurches on the south-eastern corner of the tower belonging to St Peter’s Church, Curdridge, Hampshire. The octagonal Tower was built in 1894 while the late Victorian church (1887) has become a Grade II Listed Building. The witch stares towards the hill named after her, Kitnocks Hill. Kate Nox is another name of the Curdridge witch. It is said that locals used to visit her grave in a churchyard near Kitnocks Hill seeking her advice. They would go alone at midnight and intone her name three times and then wait for her reply. Photos taken May 2019.
