Knife Block Magnetic Extenders

Knife Block Magnetic Extenders

thingiverse

I bought some new knives that came with a knife block I just hate so I needed to add some capacity to my old IKEA block. This project shows 3 parts. 1 is an extension to the block that holds the new and larger Steel a touch higher so it isn't poking through and hitting my counter top, the other two are both single and double magnet holders that you can attatch to any corner adding some magnetic knife storage. These take 10mm x 5mm neodymium magnets (available from amazon) and fit tightly so they don't pull out. Mine are printed using carbon fiber PLA but anything will work, just take shrinkage into account if your filament does. I did print the shells 5 layers thick just to ensure some stability around the screw holes so I could tighten them down a touch without cracking.
