A connection is a device used to link two shafts together at their ends in order to transmit power. The main purpose of connections is to join two pieces of rotating equipment while allowing some degree of misalignment or end movement, or both. In a broader sense, a connection can also be a mechanical device that serves to link the ends of adjacent parts or objects.[1] Connections do not normally permit disconnection of shafts during operation, however there are torque limiting connections which can slip or disconnect when some torque limit is exceeded. Choosing, installing and maintaining connections can lead to reduced maintenance time and lower maintenance costs.
