Knoxville Sunsphere

thingiverse

The Sunsphere was built for the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee. It stands in World's Fair Park in the center of Knoxville. http://worldsfairpark.org/worlds-fair-sunsphere.html I run the 3D Printer at a children's museum in Knoxville, and wanted to create a custom model that we could use to demonstrate the operation of the printer and then give away or sell. Everyone in the region knows this building. You can go inside and look out the windows! Having this thing on display or actively printing gets kids and adults interested in additive manufacturing, and important industry in this region. We also conduct "Intro to 3D Printing" classes and camps for kids. This model was made with Tinkercad and printed with a Makerbot Replicator 2.
