This thing is a little specialized spacer that is used behind the flush lever on many Kohler 2-piece toilets to correct the angle of the artfully designed porcelain and the threaded trip handle nut. This keeps the nut "flush"; the handle snug. The flush handle on one of our two Kohler toilets has been a constant source of irritation and when the flapper started leaking, it was time for some repair. When I compared the flush levers on our two otherwise identical toilets, it was clear the problem handle was not OEM. But the real issue was the replacement handle didn't quite fit the slightly sloping porcelain tank wall. It was missing this little rectangular spacer.
