Attaining a length of 10 feet, the komodo dragon is a predator with a heavy body, long thick tail, well-developed limbs with talon-like claws, long and jagged teeth and a forked tongue-used for sensing its surroundings. Despite its size these animals are quite fast, can easily climb trees and are excellent swimmers. Komodos are active during the day, hunting food such as hog deer and wild boars. They tend to be solitary animals and have a highly defined fighting ritual where the loser must submit as the victor rakes its claws repeatedly over its back.
