KRUPS GVX2 replacement bevel gear Recently my coarseness selector knob (or as KRUPS refers to it, the “ground coffee finesse selector” on the side of the grinder would no longer rotate. I disassembled the grinder to find that several teeth on the smaller white bevel gear were broken. I designed and printed a new gear assembly and am back to grinding coffee. Note that the original part has a stop on it to limit the knob’s rotation to one turn. I did not include this stop in my design to make it easier to re-install and calibrate. To determine if this gear is your problem, you need to disassemble the grinder. Below are the steps along with a link for a more thorough set of instructions that include photos. Disassembly, inspection and reassembly - Rotate the "removable upper burr" part counter-clockwise to unlock and remove. - Remove the “number of cups selector” knob from the front. Pull out with pliers. - Remove the “ground coffee finesse selector” knob from the side. Carefully pry out from two sides at once. Note that there is a small white cylinder and spring under this knob. Don’t loose these. - Remove the clear “coffee-bean hopper lid” and “ground coffee holder bin”. - The next step is to remove the grinder’s outer shell by turning the assembly upside down and using a small screw driver to carefully pry it away from the inner shell at the 4 slots around the base. The outer shell will drop down a bit allowing you to push it off. - Remove the 2 screws that hold the lower burr assembly and rotate it out of the way being careful to not break the delicate switch assembly connected to the red wires. - Inspect the bevel gear and if the small bevel gear is missing teeth, you can print and replace it. 4 screws and a bracket hold it in place. - For a more detailed explanation of disassembly with photos refer to this link: http://onthebackside.blogspot.de/2008/05/krups-gvx2-coffee-grinder.html - After you print and glue the replacement bevel gear and shaft together, re-assemble the grinder. I recommend not fully installing the “ground coffee finesse selector” knob until you grind some coffee and determine where you want the final knob position to be. Printing the gear - To maximize the strength of the part, I broke it into two pieces and printed in PETG at .2mm layer height. The bevel gear, was printed flat on the print bed (gear down) with no support and 100% infill. The shaft was printed horizontal to the print bed with support and 100% infill and needed to be cleaned up a bit. I recommend gluing the gear and shaft together. CA glue worked for me with the PETG printed parts. If you have any questions are suggestions, let me know. I have been printing for about 4 months now and this is my first contribution to the site.
