This is a Kumiko jig block. Kumiko is an ancient Japanese woodworking technique used to make the latticework seen in shoji screens and sliding doors. Kumiko patterns are created using wooden laths cut to form various geometric patterns. No nails or metal parts are used.

To get started, you need a very sharp chisel and several Kumiko jigs with several different angles, starting with jigs for 22.5, 45, and 67.5 degrees. This initial jig cover 22.5 and 67.5 degrees. I need to verify the angles on this first print.

More information can be found at:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumiko_(woodworking)

https://japanobjects.com/features/kumiko
