Kyber Crystal Container

Kyber Crystal Container

After building a custom lightsaber at Savi's workshop in Disneyland, my son and I wanted containers, like the ones that the additional crystals for purchase come with, for our crystals that came in the build. So, I got my calipers out to measure the one I purchased and designed this in tinkercad. The threads match pretty closely to the ones that are on the authentic containers, so if you just needed to print a replacement lid, you can do that. You may need to scale up the lid by 1-2% if you intend to put it on an authentic container however as it is a little snug. The overall dimensions for everything else however are very very close to the original and with the right paint you could have a pretty closely matching container! I printed this on my Elegoo Mars resin printer (the original one) using Sirayatech Simple translucent resin mixed with about 10% Flex 100 resin. I tinted it blue with plain old food coloring drops. This shade was 4 drops in about 100ml of resin. If I were to do it again, I would probably add a couple more drops to get it darker. My settings: 6 base layers @60 seconds each; 0.05 layer height @ 9 seconds. I have not tried printing it on an FDM printer so I cannot say whether the threads will print well enough to be functional should you print it on and FDM. But if you do post a comment and let us know! The main container tube can be printed flat on the base with no additional supports just fine, although I recommend printing with a 1mm hole near the base to reduce vacuum forces when printing. You can easily fill it in with resin afterward if the hole bothers you. The base lid is designed to be glued to the base of the container tube with CA glue. The top lid fits on the threads of the top of the container tube. It threads on just fine but will potentially be a little bit snug depending how your print comes out. Warping will obviously cause a problem with the threads, and overexposure could potentially cause too much interference. Such is the nature of very fine threads that are 3d printed. I recommend printing the lids at about a 40º angle and making sure the edges are well supported. The first print I did (in the photos) I had some imperfections around the rim of both lids due to lack of supports. My next print I will probably try and do some fin-type supports like people use for 3d printing dice. Good luck with printing, be sure and share attribution if you post or remix, and may the force be with you.
