A huge “Nana” in the form of a guardian angel watches over the travellers in the main hall of Zurich Main Station. 11 meters high and weighing 1.2 tons is the colorful guardian angel in the main train station that every commuter in Zurich knows. The angel was a gift from Securitas to mark the 150th anniversary of Swiss Railways and was transported in three parts by ship from the USA via Rotterdam and Basel to Zurich. Niki de Saint Phalle supervised the installation herself. Initially smiled at for her colorful “Nanas”, the French artist Niki de Saint Phalle (1930 - 2002) soon became world famous. Her voluminous “Nanas” stand for joyful, liberated and self-confident women. © Scanned by SCANVISION with support from the SBB.
