La Puerta del Mar (or Gateway to the Sea) is located in Valencia, Spain and was built in 1946 as a replacement for the original medieval city gate which was demolished in 1867, along with a large part of the original Christian city wall. It has three openings inspired by the triumphant arches of the Romans above which are four reliefs by the sculptor Vicente Navarro Romero representing “El valor”, “La Abnegación”, “La Paz” and “La Gloria”.
