Lanterns of the dead, ” lanternes des morts ” as we say in french; are structures with a very old history. Most of them were made in the XII century during the middle ages, meaning some were created a millenium ago ! And today, there is only few left, reason why I really wanted to scan it. We can found it almost only in France. Part of the tradition, lanterns of the dead were a way to guide the deads to the light. The light in the darkness, according to the christian vision ot death. But for Viollet-le-Duc a famous french architect, it was also an expression of the celtic tradition. There is lot of unknown about it but one thing is sure : it meant a strong symbol for people, during centuries. about the photogrammetry : 809 pictures took with a tripod during a cloudy afternoon. Pre processed. Processed in reality capture. Simplified in instant meshes. Some cleaning and texture paint in blender. Textures (albedo + normal map) are 16k resolution.
