You will need some type of glass to cover the top of it. I just cut plexiglass for mine. The ant farm has 2 test tube holes in which are 20mm in diameter. There is a place to put water, but you will need cotton balls to fill the water chamber up with. I have not yet tested with live ants because I am waiting for my queen's nanitic workers to arrive.
