Large Battery Holder

Large Battery Holder

Battery box to secure larger LIPO Batteries for Dukes awesome RC car. And many thanks to everyone who provided stronger, reinforced and metal inserts part for the same. After two years of flipping, dragging and eventually destroying my battery I decided to create a holder for a larger batteries. This is my foray into 3d modeling so I'm still learning. The battery compartment is added to the left body part of the car. This started as a parametrized box and with a print inplace hinge and snap fit lock. The tolerances are generous (.5 mm) and should print well on most printers. The hinge shouldn't require much loosening. The lock is tight but if you choose to use a strap to secure the battery two holes are provided on the back. The lock should hold with out a strap but I make no promises with lead footed drivers :> . When locking, line up the hole with the snap and press with some force. To open apply force at end by the bottom. First time will be tight so I suggest opening and closing a few time before attaching to the car. Just a warning you will add weight to left side of the car, but if your already using a larger battery you likely have a heat sick & fan so your ok. The two end screws will be a bit more tricky but little patience and they bit the nut. Use a slightly longer screw then the original to make life easier. To print lay the box & hinge side flat on the bed and use supports. You only need supports on the overhang on the one side and top of the door. (you may get away with out support if you bridging is well tuned ) You can use "no support" feature in cura to turn off the other support sections. The model was built in Onshape and parametrized, once I figure out how to use the customizer will update. Default Pla setting should work fine.
