Large RAMPS Case for ANET A8
thingiverse
When upgrading my printer to a RAMPS setup, I experimented with several methods of mounting and enclosing the control boards. I redesigned the original to be significantly larger, incorporating a separate mount plate that allows me to route wires behind the case. The larger size provides ample room for cable management inside the box, accommodating even my bulky fingers. Additionally, it offers plenty of space for future expander boards, ensuring flexibility in system upgrades. To enhance airflow, I modified the cooling vents to create positive pressure within the case before exhausting air through the side. This design improvement enables better air circulation across the boards and heat sinks, promoting optimal thermal performance. I also simplified the mounting process by eliminating the need for internal nuts. Using readily available hardware, my screws directly thread into the holes, streamlining assembly. CAUTION: Be aware that this configuration lowers the case on the printer, potentially resulting in insufficient wire length from your extruders and limited space for plugging in USB cables at the bottom. Consider modifying the mount to sit higher on the printer frame. Furthermore, be cautious when routing wires near the X stepper motor, as there is only about 7mm of clearance between the case and the motor. Print Settings: Printer: ANET A8 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.3 Infill: 15 Notes: This mount and case are quite large; you may want to use rafts if adhesion issues arise during printing. I prefer printing with the counter sink side of holes facing down. Post-Printing: To clean up the print, I use a countersink tool. Additionally, I perform slight trimming and cleanup of parts to ensure precise fit-up and optimal assembly.
