Laser Cut Soprano Tin Whistle Case

This is a laser cut case for a soprano tin flute, or similarly sized items. The internal dimensions are 12" x 1" x 1.5". The idea for the hinges and latch was taken from this cool jewelry box. The whistle pictured is the Celtic Edition of the Clarke Sweetone D whistle. How I Designed This I used SolidWorks to design and test fit the parts. I then exported the faces as DWG files, and used Adobe Illustrator to prepare the output for printing. SolidWorks 2015 source files included. Custom Section Cutting Settings This is designed for 1/8" material, such as plywood or MDF. 1) Etch black items. 2) Cut thin red lines. 3) Cut thin blue lines. Finishing 1)I used Trite Bond to glue the parts, using my hands as clamps. I left the lid off. 2) I used standard 1/8" case foam for the bottom of the case, and cut some 3/4" case foam for the pocket for the instrument to sit in. I used contact cement to secure the foam. 3) I sanded the box on all 5 sides, and the lid on both sides. I used 220 grit to get imperfections off and make surfaces flush, and then finished with 500 grit. Going even finer after that is a good idea, but I am impatient. 4) I used Minwax Cherry Stain and Sealer to finish all visible surfaces of the box.
