Laser Fight was released to arcades across the southeastern part of the United States in 1984. VectorSoft, the creators of Laser Fight, were so sure that they had a blockbuster on their hands that they spent $30 million to manufacture 50,000 cabinets in anticipation of overwhelming demand. Unfortunately, the game didn’t catch on with audiences - some say due to the its simplistic nature; others say that it was because the game cost 16 quarters for a single play - and VectorSoft was forced to file for bankruptcy and liquidate the approximately 49,800 Laser Fight arcade cabinets it wasn’t able to sell. Thousands of Laser Fight cabinets sat forgotten in storage for years but were eventually discovered and dismantled. The wood was used to build the replica of the Titanic used in the filming of James Cameron’s blockbuster movie.
