Lathe Tailstock DRO

Lathe Tailstock DRO

This is a digital readout for the tailstock ram of a lathe. It is based on an inexpensive carbon-fibre digital caliper. The caliper body bracket is a complete replacement back part for the caliper and it attaches to the front of the tailstock with a pair of magnets. The other part clamps around the taisltock ram. My ram is 1.25" diameter MT2 and it retracts a long way before ejecting the drill, so the clamp is designed to not need much of the ram to grip. The caliper need to have the jaw end cut off (which is why I used a plastic one) and then an M5 screw is used to attach to the ram clamp.
