LED Grid Lens

LED Grid Lens

This is a simple lens/cover for Big Clive's Gallium LED board. The clear lens diffuses the light from the LED and the opaque internal grid reduces bleedover between cells. I included a thin (on the left in the image) and thick (right) version of the lens; I prefer the thin as it's a bit brighter and the boundaries are sharper, the thick has a more muted appearance.

The files for the PCB can be found under gallium2.zip here: http://www.bigclive.com/freebies.htm This looks best with some 1.5Hz blinking LEDs, giving it an old school sci-fi computer look.

Print instructions

Print the lens with a clear/translucent filament and the grid with something opaque (black works well).
The lens should be printed with 100% infill in the bottom portion to avoid the infill from showing up in the light.
The grid has a slight taper from top to bottom, ensure the thinner side is down when inserting into the lens. The fit is fairly tight so no glue is needed, I used a clamp to help press the grid into the lens, moving it around to ensure it's fully seated. The Gallium board will snap into the lens snugly as well.
