LED-lit Color Dice!

LED-lit Color Dice!

prusaprinters

This fun item was conceptualized by a 6-year old... let me know what games you can come up with that involve dice that can change color based on which side they land on. You can also use them as an interesting nightlight or omnidirectional flashlight.

I used a 14mm diameter bearing, but I'll bet something as small as a pachinko ball would work too inside the 25mm orientation sensor.

Wiring came from the inner wires of a CAT5e cable. Solid copper is best. A single 370-ohm resistor near the negative terminal of the 9V battery was used in the circuit.

I suggest printing in a translucent filament - but I'd be interested to see what they'd be like in solid colors too - so please share if you move forward with this project.

I hope it's self explanatory how everything fits together, let me know if you have any questions. Here's a vid of the color dice in action:

<oembed url="https://youtu.be/G7mJHtF9Zro"></oembed>

Enjoy!

October 22, 2015 update: I've made a stand so you can turn it 'off' when not in use:

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1087587
Category: Dice
