just made this to make a lego jumping spider, here is the how it would work in in practice because it is useless unless for certain designs: pole is attached to a normal gear, half gear underneath facing down half gear spins engaging with normal gear spinning gear down, once at the bottom the gear lets go and and with elastic bands the spider jumps up before the half gear reengaging and pulls it back down, thus restarting the circle I might upload a video once i finish the project
