<p>This adapter works on Leica S and M series stereo microscopes with a 38mm thread at the top. It On these microscopes there is no lens built in to the top port, and the image coming through is focused to infinity. As such all that is needed to form an image is an achromatic doublet and a camera sensor placed the correct distance above it.</p><p>This adapter accepts a 1 inch diameter achromatic doublet--I have used a 200mm one from Thorlabs (AC254-200-A) for this purpose and it worked well on my aps-c camera, but a shorter focal length may give a wider field of view on some microscopes. The lens can be press fit or glued in place at the bottom. The adapter has inner m38 threads and outer m42 threads, allowing inexpensive M42 spacers and an M42 helicoid to be mounted above, with an M42 adapter for whichever camera mount you need.</p>
