UPDATE: there is now an two part version for flexible materials: [https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2950834](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2950834) This lens hood is designed for an tight fit in mechanical and optical aspects. It fits snugly over the lens if it is reversed, so it wouldn't be caught. The margin between the edges and the view port of is slightly over 1mm. The mounting force is much less then with the original one. This can help to protect your lens if it is hit by something. I hate most stock lens hoods, because they are way too bulky, the shape is rarely matched with the actual field of view and the fit is so hard that they enforce the risk of damaging the internal mechanisms of the lens. The SAL24105 is Sony incarnation of the former Minolta AF 24-105mm F3.5-4.5 D. In my opinion it is the most vestibule one can find for full frame a mount. The only problem is that it is prone to flare. This lens hood will improve over the stock one. It has marks for alignment in working position. In reverse position an twist of about 45° will secure it. In this position the stock one looks nicer. One drawback of home made lens hoods are the glittering material. An narrow opening at the front helps to reduce this problem. Sanding and/or matt black paint might help also. I used PETG.
