<p>Levitating a magnet above another permanent magnet is impossible!<br>It doesn't matter how many permanent magnets you add to the system, it won't work!</p><p>To make it work, you need one of two things:<br>1. Make the magnet above spin (but it will stop eventually and fall down)<br>2. Use something to stabilize it.</p><p>There are lots of floating magnets gadgets that use electromagnets and a feedback sensor to stabilize the system.</p><p>I wanted to create an elementary static permanent magnet levitating system, so I used some thin sewing thread to stabilize it.</p><p>All you need to build this toy are 12 permanent magnets (10x3mm) and some sewing thread.</p>
