Lewis Chess Pieces

Lewis Chess Pieces

thingiverse

This is a set of chess pieces created from photographs of the pieces found on the Isle of Lewis 1831 carved from whale tooth and walrus bone that are available on the internet . I have incorporated the three usual pawns into one model. Edit 16_01_2019 Details amended at a request from Ffoligna:- Please be sure to set the sizes for your chess pieces in your slicing software on the height that you would like your pieces to be. Sculptris doesn’t have measurement so the stl’s are pretty much sized as they are drawn. Edit 15_06_2018, I am just adding a note/acknowledgement to MakeALot who did the set Lewis #Chess that I had a tinker with in tinkercad when I was originally looking for the Lewis Chessmen, without that step I would never have started to do any sculpting so thank you! They are printed at 1.40 (140%) of the file size with the odd exception! knight2 is printed at 1.25. For reference: The board is 48cm sq.. square size 5cm x 5cm. The knight needs to be printed with a little support... although I have simplified the horse I can't get away from the need for support under the head... I have re-modelling it to a more original version due to its requirement for support. There are now 2 files for the knight with and without a gap between neck and face. Edit 31.03.18: I have uploaded the Sculptris images of the 2 different knights for clarification. And I apologize... Have yet to workout how to change the stl file orientation. If you know please advise. edit... My thanks to Anubis for pointing me at software for this. 22_06_2018 Alternative piece... added a seated bishop, sculptris images added, this piece needs to be printed at 240% in Cura to match my original sizes. Prints fine no support etc. 30_06_2018 Added alternative piece for my original rook (should have listed him as Berserker really) Alternative is the Warder with shield and sword. Photos printed in white at 0.2 layer height no support etc + Sculptris image. 08_07_2018 Uploaded photo of some pieces printed on the Photon in clear resin (avg size 3.5cm tall) If you do print a set please post a photo to I made one, thanks
