1/1800th scale Lexington Class Aircraft Carrier model. Certain elements not to scale. The Lexington Class of aircraft carriers were the second and third aircraft carriers built for the US Navy. Like many early carriers, they were originally planned as battlecruisers and the hulls were converted into aircraft carriers as countries realized the potential of aircraft carriers. The Lexington was sunk in the first ever carrier vs carrier battle in 1942 while her sister ship, Saratoga survived numerous torpedo and kamikaze attacks only to be deliberately sunk in 1946 for nuclear weapons testing. 3 versions of this design are available. Lexington circa 1938, Lexington circa 1942, and Saratoga circa 1943. This model is designed and tested at 1/1800th scale, but up-scaling and down-scaling are possible. Since the model is optimized for 1/1800th scale, it is not ideal to print larger versions due to a lack of detail. The gun barrels and mast have been enlarged. This is part of my collection of WWII warships, keep an eye out for more to come. If you have a specific request, message me and I'll bump it up my list. Update 18 April '19: Fixed length/beam/height ratio to be more historically accurate. Fixed Saratoga configuration to be more historically accurate. Added two Lexington configurations. Update 4 May '19: Fixed disconnected guns near aft of Lexington models. Added missing aft guns to Saratoga model. Update 21 Aug '19: Added boats. Tested with PLA at .08mm layer height with .4mm nozzle. However, smaller layer heights such as .08 will create better results.
