Feed your cables underneath your LG Ergo Monitor when using the B-type stand
The LG Ergo monitor is billed as a minimalistic monitor stand with integrated cable management. *However* while cable management is on the raiser, there is no option to feed your cables directly underneath your stand. So after buying the LG QHD 27" monitor (model name 27QN880) I wanted to: * Put the monitor directly onto the desk via a 20mm hole with the B-type stand ([manual](https://gscs-b2c.lge.com/downloadFile?fileId=JZWtIbAwthYJ0RT7qbm0Yw) says hole size should be 20-40mm), rather than clamping it from behind. * Have space to put in cables underneath the monitor stand itself, rather than feed them through a visible hole/grommet in the desk. To do this, I did the following: 1. Drilled a 20mm hole into my desk where the bolt would go. 2. **Important** Drilled a second 20mm hole, with the edge of the two holes being 10mm apart. This is where I would feed through my cables (e.g. power, ethernet etc.) 3. Created a 4mm stand raiser with a gap at the back (Mk 1). After this initial version, I encountered a few problems: * The weight of the monitor stand was such that it easily tipped forward in the 20mm hole, making installation difficult. **To solve this problem, I created a support with a 2mm lip that would fit in the hole while leaving enough room for the bolt.** * It was very difficult to center the raiser with the base of the stand. **To solve this problem, I created lips around the edges and expanded the size of the raiser to 122mm square (with the lips being 1mm thick on each corner).** * 4mm was insufficient clearance for cables. **To solve this problem I increased the size of the raiser to 9mm.** Mk4 is the latest version of this.
Notes
* As this is supporting weight, I used 100% infill. * Please check the size of your base plate for your LG Ergo in case later versions are different. In my case, the base plate was 120mm square with rounded corners. * The ring support is designed to fill a 20mm with a small amount of play (the diameter of the insert is 17mm, allowing for 1.5mm either side). Resize depending on the size of the hole in your desk. * Note that **you cannot feed the cables through the same hole as the bolt. Make sure you have drilled a second hole towards the back of the desk (but not so far as to not be outside the stand area) to feed your cables through.** * Create at your own risk!
