Light and Fan Switch Icons

There are two types of icons here, each with the same goal: to differentiate between light controls and fan controls:

Light and fan icons to fit wall plates that use 6-32 wall plate screws

Fan icons for ceiling fan pull chains

A cap is included which should fit snugly into either the fan or light icons. There are some key assumptions in the designs:

The wall plates fit 6-32 screws

The ceiling fan pull chains have cylindrical cut-outs

Key Dimensions

Here are the main dimensions that will help any scaling considerations:

The diameter of the opening that fits the screw head is 6.75 mm

The diameter of the opening that fits the screw threading is 4.00 mm

The fan icon stretches at most 19.218 mm

The light icon stretches at most 16.966 mm

The indoor fan pull chain connector diameter is 6.15 mm

The outdoor fan pull chain connector diameter is 8.27 mm

Non-Print Materials Required

For the icons the screw holes fit 6-32 wall plate screws such as https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08T64GL5J. There is 3.659 mm between where the screw head hits the icon and the bottom of the blocker, so if your wall plates came with extremely short screws as some of mine did you might need longer ones. I had good results with the ¾ in long screws from the above link, and they matched the color of the original screws.

For the pull chain icons I used Gorilla Super Glue Gel to adhere the icon to the pull chain.

Printing Advice

I used the 0.15 mm Quality PrusaSlicer preset to print this. I think a larger layer height would work fine, but I recommend sticking with a slower speed setting such as Quality because there are fine details for some of the parts in each layer.

I suggest glow-in-the-dark filament (though be aware that these filaments tend to wear nozzles faster as they contain abrasive materials that give it the glow-in-the-dark property) for these parts because that can help find the light switches in the dark. The photos include some glowing icons as I printed these in Amolen glow-in-the-dark PLA.

Attribution

The light and fan icons were based on the following designs:

Fans: https://www.svgrepo.com/svg/29466/ventilating-fan

Lights: https://www.svgrepo.com/svg/4148/light-bulb
