Lighted Celtic Skull Base

Lighted Celtic Skull Base

The Celtic Skull (Hollow) was designed from the start to be illuminated by a light source (LED) which many makers who printed this thing (such as Wil Wheaton) did in fact provide. This thing is designed to make illuminating the Celtic Skull easy as well as enhance it's appearance with this cool skull and cross bones base. Since Halloween is only a month a way it's time to get printing... Instructions I searched the internet for skull and cross bones images where the bones were connected to the skull. Also it had to be a simple but easily recognizable form. I used Inkscape to trace the bitmap and then outputed this directly to OpenSCAD souce using the Inkscape OpenSCAD exporter. I then used the non-hollowed out version of the Celtic Skull to create the proper cut out to make in the base. Then a simple 5mm hole was added for a power cord to pass through. I used a softtite LED light so I created a holder that allowed me to angle the light in the direction of the face. The holder is designed for 3mm screws and has places where you can add 3mm nuts. I glued the base to the skull and then used a 3mm screw and nut to hold the softtite holder to the top part and another 3mm screw and nut to attach the top part to the bottom part.
