Lightweight bracket (v2)
grabcad
To optimize weight, I applied the concept of lightening by reducing masses while maintaining original footprint's high moments of inertia. This resulted in a hollow shape with aircraft-like construction - large empty shells stiffened by hot spot reinforcements. Mesh thickness averaged 2mm (0.079in), and weight reduced by 79.3% to 424g (0.93lbs) compared to original 2051g (4.52lbs). Vertical load: 754MPa (109.3Ksi), horizontal load: 694Mpa (100.6Ksi), load at 42 degrees: 688Mpa (99.7Ksi), torque: 400Mpa (58.01Ksi). However, holes made for weight reduction are near allowable effort limits and may affect fatigue life; a second version with reinforcements could address this concern.
