Lion Shaped Column Base

The majestic lion served as a sturdy support for a column, its base carved seamlessly into one solid piece. The harsh weathering around its head reveals that it was originally used to guard an exterior doorway or window frame. Its relatively compact size makes it similar in scale to other lions positioned beside windows in the apses of Bitonto's and Troia's cathedrals, as well as those on Termoli's cathedral façade.
