Lithopane Sun Moon Plaques

Lithopane Sun Moon Plaques

thingiverse

An attempt to make lithopanes using PLA. Negative versions of the Sun, Moon plaques, thing:792943, are given; that is the layers of plastic are inverted, thin where the original was thick, and thick where the original was thin. Parameters were introduced into openSCAD polyhedron commands to make lithopane experiments easy. More information is given in the openSCAD code. Instructions To make these lithopanes work we need PLA which passes a fair amount of light when 0.4 mm thick and blocks most light when 4 or 5 mm thick. Translucent PLA's pass too much light and most colored PLA's block too much light. Makerbot's "true white" PLA was used although a PLA which passes a bit more light would be preferable. The plaques were printed standing on edge with 0.2 mm layers and 100% infill. The image above shows the plaques hanging in a window.
